November 2026 Election: Candidates Weigh In on Local Business Issues

The Greater Eureka Chamber of Commerce has released its report on responses to their Fall 2026 Candidate Questionnaire.

“This unique report offers local voters insights into candidates running to represent our community,” said Nancy Olson, CEO of the Greater Eureka Chamber. “We asked them hard questions focused on issues affecting the business community, economic vitality, and regional quality of life. We did not edit their responses - and they had a lot to say!”

Candidates were asked to address four core areas:

1. Advocating for Local Businesses: How they plan to support businesses navigating current financial and other challenges.

2. Leveraging State and Federal Policy: How they will evaluate and utilize legislative initiatives to strengthen the local economy.

3. Improving Communication: How candidates envision strengthening two‑way communication between the Chamber, local businesses, and government at all levels.

4. Responding to Member Priorities: What specific steps they will take to address the Chamber’s top six member‑identified priorities:

  • Attracting and retaining businesses
  • Expanding access to healthcare
  • Increasing affordable and market‑rate housing
  • Addressing homelessness through housing, mental health care, drug treatment, and community safety
  • Supporting a healthy tourism ecosystem
  • Streamlining business processes with local government

Requests for responses were sent to candidates for the following offices:

  • City of Eureka Mayor
Eureka City Council: Wards 1, 3, and 5
  • Eureka City Schools Board
  • Humboldt Community Services District
  • Humboldt Bay Harbor Commission: Divisions 4, 5, and 6
  • Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District: Division 6
  • California State Assembly
  • California State Senate
  • U.S. Congress, District 2

The report is a project of the Greater Eureka Chamber’s Business & Government Affairs Committee, in collaboration with staff. The Chamber does not endorse any candidate and encourages voters to review the responses, conduct additional research, and vote according to their own priorities and values.
